Prospective and retrospective loss aversion in the human brain
Abstract
Loss aversion remains to be a vibrant research topic in decision neuroscience. In this talk, I review our previous research regarding how individual prospective loss aversion is modulated by personality trait and pharmacological manipulation. I then provide some unpublished correlational and causal evidence. To demonstrate how people’s attitudes towards retrospective loss might also influence their choice behavior in a value decision task. Finally, I’ll discuss the roles played by different brain regions involved in biasing people’s behavior toward financial loss.
Speaker Bio
Jian Li received his Ph.D. in neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine in 2007 and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at New York University. He is currently an associate professor at the School of psychological and cognitive sciences at Peking University. Jian’s primary research interest is learning and decision-making. His ongoing research projects aim to investigate the neural mechanisms of context dependent decision making and means to bridge researches in reinforcement learning and value based decisions.
