Urban Attention
ABSTRACT
The effects of external distractors on reaction time have been extremely well characterized in the lab. In this project, we aim to quantify the impact of distracting urban environments during an everyday task: driving. Using high–resolution video feeds from a diverse group of urban intersections, we are measuring response times to traffic light changes under varying levels of external distraction. We hope to validate and extend theoretical models of spatial attention to real–world scenarios.
